My name is Nelly and I joined Enfants & Développement as a volunteer in the early 2000s, at the end of my career.
I worked as a secretary for what used to be called a solicitor, before the profession was restructured and its activities merged with those of lawyers. I really enjoyed the job, but when I became a volunteer, I finally felt like I was doing something.
I immediately sensed an associative spirit at Enfants & Développement, with the desire to improve the lives of those in need. From my point of view, there's no judgement or competition; everyone contributes their skills and their vision of things to advance projects of public utility and social benefit.
When I arrived, there were 6 or 7 people. We were 2 volunteers. Back then, we did a lot of things by hand: I typed up reports, mailed letters, put them in envelopes; I helped with the accounts. Over the years, the way we worked has changed: while I still do the mail sorting and administrative filing, the computer and Excel have arrived!
And then Enfants & Développement grew and became Planète Enfants & Développement, always committed to making life better for children and women in different countries; developing structures for children's education but also supporting young women with training to get them out of their precarious environment and make them more autonomous.
Today, Planète Enfants & Développement also calls on the services of employees to help with the administrative side of things, which means that my tasks are changing. But I've met a lot of nice people here, surrounded by young people! That's why, after 25 years, I'm still a volunteer. And as long as my health permits, I'll be happy to continue.
