In 2025, the world’s most populous country continued its growth, with GDP estimated to have risen by 7.6%. However, this macroeconomic performance masks deep-seated and persistent social disparities, making the country one of the most unequal in the world.

The Indian educational landscape is undergoing significant change, driven by the National Education Policy (NEP) enacted in 2020. The focus is on preschool and elementary education, with the goal of closing gender gaps and improving basic reading and math skills. Nevertheless, access to quality education remains unequal, and economic barriers (such as the cost of school supplies and transportation) continue to lead to early school dropouts, particularly among girls. In this context, technical and vocational training is becoming a critical driver of inclusion.

Planète Enfants & Développement in India : In 2023, the organization “Calcutta: From the Streets to School” merged with Planète Enfants & Développement. For 30 years, this French association had supported the Indian NGO Tomorrow’s Foundation, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for disadvantaged, marginalized, and/or disabled children. Following the merger, Planète Enfants & Développement continues this long-standing support for the Indian NGO Tomorrow’s Foundation to promote children’s education and youth training in that country.
