CAMBODIA
In 2025, Cambodia faced significant challenges related to the escalation of the border conflict and armed clashes with Thailand. The social impact of displacement, insecurity, and loss of income was considerable. The closure of schools in several provinces also disrupted the education of a large number of children. These conditions increased the risks of school dropout and dangerous migration
and, consequently, children's vulnerability.
Nationally, the return of more than 900,000 Cambodian migrants from Thailand has put pressure on
additional pressure on the labor market. Families have found it increasingly difficult to meet their basic needs, which has heightened their financial vulnerability. In Poipet, the border town where we operate, many families reported a drop in income of about 50 %.
Early childhood development in Cambodia is now at a promising turning point thanks to government action and strategic investments. While only 1.9 % of young children were enrolled in official daycare centers according to the World Bank in 2024, the Prime Minister signed a historic decree on daycare management on December 15, 2025, establishing the first official regulatory framework.
