LAOS
The country is still struggling to recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2025, Laos remained mired in a prolonged economic crisis, marked by rising costs for essential goods, particularly food and transportation.
As a result, many families have seen their incomes and purchasing power decline. Spending on basic needs such as health care, nutrition, and education has often been cut back.
Social challenges further exacerbate the vulnerability of children and adolescents. A shortage of teachers, excessive distances between home and school in certain regions, and the financial hardships faced by families are driving school dropout rates to alarming levels, especially in rural areas and among girls.
