Now a laboratory technician in Kathmandu, Rabina talks to us about her journey since meeting the association 13 years ago in Nepal.
An alcoholic and violent father, a couple breaking up, Rabina still doesn't know - at the age of 24 - where her parents are. Her grandmother took her and her younger sister in when she was a child. They lived in a village in central Nepal, and the family's income depended entirely on the grandmother, a farmer. When the grandmother's health deteriorated, she entrusted Rabina to acquaintances who placed her with an organization in Kathmandu. There, she was able to continue her studies. When she was in 8th grade, the organization closed its doors and referred her to Voice of Children [a partner of Enfants & Développement*].
Thanks to the association's welcome, protection and care, Rabina has always pursued her goals with courage to succeed in life. She came top in her college final exams and won scholarships.
After working in a hospital, she is now a laboratory technician in a polyclinic.
An independent and determined young woman, she still maintains good relations with her sister and grandmother, whom she continues to help in her village.
"I'm grateful to have received the support of Voice of Children, thanks to whom I've succeeded in my studies and my career. Thank you for your support.
Enfants & Développement* (before it became Planète Enfants & Développement) and Voice of Children became partners in Nepal in 2001, and have been for many years.
They accompanied street children in Kathmandu, preparing them for reintegration into their families, schools and jobs.
Voice of Children still runs 2 centers: a temporary reception center where children stay for up to 3 months; and a socialization center to help them prepare for the future.
