Parenthood month in Nepal celebrated in June

Jun 24, 2024

On June 12 and 13, our team in Nepal celebrated Parenthood Month in 2 kindergartens we support in Gorkha. Marine, on civic service with Planète Enfants & Développement, tells us about these 2 days.

We set ourselves the goal of sharing a moment of exchange with the teaching team, parents and children to develop links with them and between them. We also wanted to immerse ourselves in their daily lives, to refine our perception of the challenges to be met as part of our project.

Teachers and children welcomed us with flower necklaces and bouquets. We then got to know the parents, grandparents and siblings present for the occasion, and launched into games.

Each parent or family member was able to play an indoor or outdoor game with "their" child. For these families, whose priority is often to fill their plates every day, this time of fun and enjoyment was precious.

Indeed, the families attending the 48 schools we support in Gorkha live in very precarious conditions. Most of the fathers work in other regions, or even abroad, to support the household, and are far removed from the challenges of caring for and educating their young children.
What's more, it's often a long walk to school, in the blazing sun, in the rain, on mountain paths. The older children get, the greater the risk of dropping out of school.
That's why it's so important to support these parents in their role, to convince and mobilize them for their education from an early age, despite the difficulties of everyday life.
