The BNCE-Togo* association is a partner of Planète Enfants & Développement in developing the child care provider sector in Togo. Marc Messan Tsandja Afangnon, an educational psychologist, serves as its executive director. He shares with us his vision of early childhood and his commitment to children and families.

Why is it important today to develop a program for child care providers in Togo?

The early years of life are crucial for a child’s development. It is therefore important to be able to rely on trained professional teams capable of supporting children, stimulating their cognitive development, and fostering their growth.

What is the role of BNCE-Togo in this project carried out in partnership with Planète Enfants & Développement?

BNCE-Togo is leading the implementation of the project with technical support and expertise from Planète Enfants & Développement. We have helped mobilize relevant stakeholders at the government level, train child care providers, and then provide them with support and assist with their professional integration.

What has made the biggest impression on you since the project was launched?

What moved me the most were the parents“ testimonials. Seeing their relief and hearing some of them say, ”Finally, a solution for my children’s care and well-being,” is very inspiring. It shows that this initiative meets a real need for families.

What changes would you like to see as a result of this project in the coming years?

There are still too many children who do not receive adequate care before they start school. I hope that early childhood will become a priority in Togo: that children will be well cared for in environments that promote their development and protection.

What personally motivates you in your work with children?

When I was a child, I loved to play and have fun, and that time helped shape the person I am today. Today, my mission is to ensure that all children, without exception, can fully enjoy their childhood in a safe and supportive environment.
Children did not choose to be born into this world: it is up to adults to create an environment that allows them to grow, learn, and thrive.

And outside of work, what gives you energy in your day-to-day life?

I enjoy sports and community activities. I also tend a garden and raise chickens: these are simple activities that help me maintain a good sense of balance.
