At the beginning of September, we appealed to you to provide emergency aid to a thousand families gathered in a camp in Cambodia's Preah Vihear province, following military clashes during the summer on the border with Thailand..
Actions carried out thanks to your donations
To alleviate the very precarious living conditions in the camp (makeshift shelters, mud, insalubrity, lack of water and hygiene, interruption of children's schooling), we provided an initial response at the end of August by supplying 10 solar panels to improve the camp's lighting and co-financing the construction of a 600 m² tivoli to bring children together, ensure distributions or organize gatherings.
Thanks to your donations, we have been able to provide :
- 16 maternity kits containing diapers, soap and first-aid clothing for pregnant women
- 50 bamboo and canvas shelters for the most vulnerable families
- 10 truckloads of stone to dry out roads in the camp
Significantly improved living conditions
“Before, the road was muddy and slippery, especially during the rainy season. Today, even children, the elderly and pregnant women can move around the camp more easily,” says Soakheng, a member of our team in Cambodia.
“Families are gradually returning to their villages, as the border conflict situation is much better. There's no more fighting, just a few isolated incursions into certain areas.”
First steps towards peace between Cambodia and Thailand
On October 26, 2025, Cambodia and Thailand signed a historic peace agreement in Kuala Lumpur, under the aegis of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations, which brings together ten countries in the region).
A few hours later, the two armies began withdrawing their heavy weapons from the border zone, marking a first concrete gesture of disarmament.
The agreement, backed by the international community, provides for respect of borders, protection of civilians, demining of high-risk areas and development cooperation - an encouraging step towards lasting stability in the region.
