On May 3rd, Planète Enfants & Développement celebrated the opening of the crèches - the first 3 of the 14 planned for the project - in villages of Kampong Speu in Cambodia. Here are some pictures of this event.
Enrolled progressively since the opening, the 3 nurseries welcome a total of 34 children from Monday to Saturday from 6:30 am to 4:30 pm. Educators, children and families from the villages of Chambok, Tropaing Kong and Prey Tacchab are taking their marks. At the same time, the registration campaign is in full swing. The objective of the teams in the next few weeks is to gather 20 to 25 children per crèche.
But for the moment, it is time to adapt. The educators, trained last March, are working daily on the layout of the space, their listening and availability postures towards the children, hygiene, nutrition, meal times, games for babies and older children, but also questions of over-stimulation...
Shala Nourmamode, our Early Childhood expert who is accompanying the development of these crèches, tells us about the first successes and challenges:
"The teams are making great strides and caring for the little ones with love and kindness! We can already see the effects on the development of some children. Thanks to the verbalization of gestures and exposure to books, but also to the cessation of screens at home, a little boy who was old enough to speak but who was not expressing himself, is now able to call his parents!
Daycare centers are also a privileged place to understand the habits of certain families. For example, one of the big challenges we face is nutrition: we find that some children are bottle-fed or fed milk with added sugar - which can lead to overweight and early diabetes. We hope to address this problem by trying to set up discussions and awareness sessions for parents, with our local partner RACHA."
We are currently seeking additional land, municipalities and employer partners to open 10 more daycare centers by the end of 2023, benefiting nearly 300 children of Cambodian textile factory workers.
