Three years after we began our partnership with the municipality of Sahid Lakhan in Nepal, we have observed that the municipality has gradually strengthened its commitment to early childhood education by allocating an annual budget to the 48 preschools we support and by working to improve coordination among local stakeholders.
As our support in the rural commune of Sahid Lakhan is set to end in July 2026, a workshop to review the Early Childhood Development Plan was held on June 6 and 7 with the municipality’s leadership and technical teams to ensure the continuity of the initiatives undertaken beyond the project’s duration. The event brought together key local officials, including the mayor, the deputy mayors, the administrative director, and the heads of the education, health, social development, governance, and infrastructure sectors.
Over the course of these two days, participants discussed ways to better coordinate the various services for young children and their families. The discussions helped identify the progress made, the lessons learned from implementing the plan, and the challenges that remain.
Following the workshop, the municipality’s Early Childhood Development Plan was revised and updated to define new priorities and objectives for the coming years. This new roadmap aims to strengthen coordination across sectors and promote services that are more focused on children’s needs.
This step marks a significant step forward in ensuring the sustainability of the project's results.
