"My name is Srey Mao, I live in Cambodia and I have 5 children.
My husband and I have always done all kinds of manual labor to support our family. For some time, we have been working in a jasmine plantation.
We could never afford to send our children to school until 3 of my daughters joined the Happy Chandara School 3 years ago. In addition, we receive monthly food aid from the school.
In our old house, there was not enough room for 7 people. During the monsoon, it rained in the house and we were always flooded. We used to collect the water that flowed inside in plastic containers...
Now our living conditions have improved a lot. I was very happy when the social worker from the school came to our village to announce that our family had been selected to have a new house. I never thought I would be able to live in a beautiful house like this one. I think nothing is more important than having a safe home.
Now that we have a new home, my oldest daughter who is in 5th grade even says that she wants to come back and live here, that she doesn't want to sleep at school anymore! She and her sisters are doing even better in school than before. My two other daughters, who are in CE1 and CE2, are both first in their class! They also want to come back home.
I am very grateful to Planète Enfants & Développement and to Happy Chandara School for improving our family's life."
Planète Enfants & Développement and Happy Chandara School - sponsored by the NGO Toutes à l'Ecole which fights for the schooling of vulnerable girls - have entered into a partnership from July 2021 to February 2022 to partially or fully renovate the homes of some of the school's students. Hai SreyLeap is a student whose family has benefited from a complete renovation.
