After the construction of 10 standard communal nursery schools, we are continuing the work of the so-called "eco smart" schools, their equipment and the training of their teachers in Cambodia.
Prey Kontouch, Provoek Pong and Kball Damreiy: the construction of these 3 schools of the commune of Teuk Laok in Kampong Speu is now completed on the eco smart" business model thanks to the additional funds that the municipalities have managed to mobilize.
Since the official reopening of schools for children under 5 on January 10, they welcome a total of one hundred children 5 mornings per week for 2 hours*. With the equipment and teaching materials provided or created, the teachers continue the organization of the class in the afternoon.
The teachers in these schools have all received the 35 days of mandatory initial training. They will now be monitored by the District Office of Education. They will also have access to the resources of an online educational platform that we are developing with our partners.
Communal kindergarten teachers, who are poorly paid women from remote villages, lack training and follow-up during their careers. In theory, an initial training of 35 days is mandatory, but in reality, most of the teachers have not received or completed this training, which is necessary for the education of children and for the communal school to be approved by the state.
In total, by the end of 2022, 100 female teachers in community schools will benefit from Planète Enfants & Développement or our partner Bandos Komar: either the 35 days of mandatory initial training or a 5-day refresher course.
* In Cambodia, 3 systems of kindergarten education coexist:
- In public preschools, children attend school from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., 5 days a week.
- In the communal nursery schools, they also attend school 5 days a week, but only for 2 hours a day (from 7:00 to 9:00) or 3 hours a day if the school is state-approved.
- The children can finally follow a program at home for 1 hour a day.
