The Cambodian Minister of Education, His Excellency Hang Chuon Naron, visited the teams of Planète Enfants & Développement and its local partner Krousar Yoeung. In preparation for the regional conference on Early Childhood (ARNEC: Asia Regional Network on Early Childhood) which will bring together in early March in Cambodia all the Asian actors of early childhood, including 14 Ministers of Education, the Minister took a closer look at innovative pedagogical approaches to support the improvement of preschool education in Cambodia.
During his visits to schools in rural areas, the Minister noted the quality of teaching of community kindergarten teachers trained at the Early Childhood Resource Center by Krousar Yoeung, and he wanted to know more about the theoretical foundations of the pedagogies that inspired the training and teaching materials developed by the Early Childhood Resource Center, including Montessori. This was an opportunity for the teams of Planète Enfants & Développement, Krousar Yoeung and the Ministry to exchange on the government's strategic orientations, notably the implementation of the decentralization policy and the role of the communes in the management of schools, the quality of the community kindergarten model and the future of this model. It emerged from the discussions that teacher training and teaching materials are the 2 pillars of quality education, and that the government, Krousar Yoeung and Planète Enfants & Développement will continue to work together to propose innovative approaches that meet the needs of Cambodian teachers and children.
Since 2010, Planète Enfants & Développement and Krousar Yoeung have been jointly implementing the Early Childhood Resource Center, providing training and innovative educational materials following a social enterprise model.
