At the end of this summer, we carried out two rainwater drains in the precarious districts of Phnom Penh, in Cambodia.
For the residents of these neighborhoods, this is a relief. Sanitation and drainage infrastructures remain largely insufficient in Phnom Penh Between May and October, the monsoon regularly floods the dirt streets. The stagnant waters result in, for example problems of displacement, garbage disposal and diseases which primarily affect the most vulnerable and children.
" These are the residents' committees present in the neighborhoods we support, who present their project and manage the administrative issues: obtaining authorizations, making the link with the road services. We help them finance the system. Construction takes about a month and attracts many curious people, especially when the excavator arrives! Once the drainage is completed, the living conditions of the children and families living nearby are much improved and they are very happy! "says Pierre Larnicolproject manager of the Precarious Habitat project in Cambodia.
