A childhood memory His first big hikes in Auvergne at the age of 6. Leaving Paris for the mountains, walking for hours and then enjoying a blueberry crêpe!

What you need to build the game:

  • A light ball (pompom, plush, fabric... anything that can be thrown safely)
  • A speaker or phone with upbeat music

How is it made?

No manufacturing required! Just choose the right music and prepare a space to play. Fast, simple and effective!

Group playing hot potato

How do you play?

Everyone sits or stands in a circle. The music starts: the ball is passed quickly from hand to hand. When the music stops, whoever is holding the hot potato is eliminated... or faces a small challenge (especially with younger players).
Play continues until only one player remains!

Tip: For larger groups, add 2 or 3 balls for even more fun!

Preparation time: 2 minutes (time to plug in the speaker)
Ideal age: from 3 to 99 (and beyond!)
The perfect intergenerational activity!

Sophie's advice
«If elimination gets in the way, start with a version with no losers. Then add a funny token rather than a strict elimination. And if you're playing as a family, let the loser of the next round invent a new rule, like throwing the ball with both hands or closing your eyes!»

The anecdote we love
«This week, after a workshop, five children continued to play Hot Potato with each other. They had no phones, no music... so they invented their own version! One child in the middle, crouched down with eyes closed, counted out loud while the others passed the ball around in a circle. On hearing a “Stop!”, whoever had the ball was eliminated. Simple, clever, and above all completely autonomous! It was magical to see how they reinvented the rules with the means at hand. Proof that this game is alive and well beyond our workshops.»
