Despite a GDP growth rate of 5.3 % in 2024, driven by agriculture and the Plateforme Industrielle d'Adétikopé, Togo still faces major social and economic inequalities.
Ranked 163rd out of 193 on the Human Development Index and 147th out of 170 on the Gender Inequality Index, the country has a high infant mortality rate (58 per thousand) and a low literacy rate (67 %).
Pre-school education remains underdeveloped, with only 29 % children enrolled, holding back early childhood development despite government commitments.
