Laos: all our projects

LAOS

Despite 30 years of steady economic growth, Laos remains one of Asia's poorest countries. Its public debt represents 108 % of its GDP, according to the World Bank.

More and more families are struggling to feed themselves, and nearly one in three children under the age of 5 suffers from stunted growth due to malnutrition, according to the Asian Development Bank. Many are having to cut back on essential spending, affecting children's health and education.

The most vulnerable children often have to work to help their families instead of going to school. International organizations are also warning of the problem of modern slavery, which is still little recognized in the country. According to the Global Slavery Index 2023, 59 % of victims are identified and assisted by the state.
