An Early Childhood Education Resource Center

Although the Cambodian government is committed to providing all children with access to a quality pre-school, it is struggling to achieve its ambitions. In the countryside, where the poorest people live, there are not enough schools, teachers are not always trained and lack teaching materials.

The project

To promote good quality care for young children, we have set up an Early Childhood Education Resource Center (CRPE) in Phnom Penh in 2010.

With the support of our local partner Krousar Yoeung, a specialist in Early Childhood in Cambodia, we have developed training courses for educators and teachers, teaching materials as well as pedagogical aids, some of which are inspired by the Montessori pedagogy.

In 2019, the ECRE finalized, with a committee of experts, a catalog of 55 locally certified educational games available to educators nationwide.

The Early Childhood Educational Resource Center operates on the model of a social and solidarity enterprise since the profits from the sale of games and educational materials are reinvested in training and the design of new games. Today it has 11 employees and is also part of a strong social approach since it employs people with disabilities.

The ECRC is also responsible for leading the National Network of Early Childhood Actors. This network, which has an advocacy role, makes recommendations to the national authorities. Today, 30 organizations are part of it.

With the support of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, we have enabled our local partner, Krousar Yoeung, to become autonomous in the management of the center.

It is this Early Childhood Resource Center that led us to set up a new project to support community preschools in Cambodia.

" The Early Childhood Resource Center is an enormous opportunity for our country. In particular, it allows us to strengthen the capacities of the communes in charge of school management with decentralization, those of the Commune Committees for Women and Children (CCWC), and community preschool teachers, and to promote access to learning for children in remote rural areas.
