Do not reinvent the wheel: capitalization

25 Mar, 2019

How can we adapt to a particular area, time or problem without starting from scratch? This is the challenge of capitalization: to document the essence of the experiences carried out, and to develop analysis and response grids based on successful practices.

In 2019, Planète Enfants & Développement is participating in a collective reflection initiated by the Fondation Abbé Pierre for the fight against poor housing in international solidarity programs.

Indeed, the construction or rehabilitation of housing is far from being an exclusively technical concern. These projects have social impacts that must be considered and that require complex analyses.
This is why 3 axes of capitalization have been identified.

1. Constructive culturesWe have to know what traditional local construction techniques, adapted to the climatic conditions and to the respect of the environment, are to be taken into account in our programs.

2. Citizen participation or how to get out of the NGO prescription and ensure that everyone, including women, has a voice.

3. Securing land tenure How to reconcile the needs of the population in terms of land for construction and the legal provisions in slum areas, for example.

The reflection began in October 2018 and will be conducted over approximately 15 months, through workshops that will bring together a dozen French and southern associations.
