Meet Rohan, a 4-year-old boy who is welcomed every day at an Angawadi center in India. These centers are set up in villages to welcome and encourage learning among children aged 3 to 6, 3 hours a day. With our partner Tomorrow's Foundation, we support the teachers at these centers.
Early childhood education in India takes a new step forward with the Anandapath program, run by our partner Tomorrow's Foundation in the Birbhum district. After a successful first phase of training 4,250 government teachers in 2024, the second phase is now underway, supporting classroom teachers in 5,191 Anganwadi centers that function as nursery schools.
The aim is to improve the quality of early childhood education, which is still often limited to children's nutritional needs. Many teachers had been trained more than 10 or 15 years ago and were following outdated practices. Since February, personalized support has been in place to ensure that the lessons learned are properly applied. The aim of this six-month program is to establish a sustainable model of education for 3-6 year-olds.
