When I joined Planète Enfants in February 1999, it was a small association based in a garage, struggling to raise funds to fight child exploitation in Nepal.
At the time, the founder managed the structure alone. Recruited as secretary, I quickly organized the administrative side of things, as well as keeping track of donors and helping to produce the first information materials.
I discovered this world of associations, which I liked straight away; where you say to yourself: even if it's difficult, you don't give up, it's possible. And it was true: that same year, the association received its first grants, was awarded the Prix des droits de l'homme and was the subject of TV reports in the programs "Des racines et des ailes" and "Envoyé spécial". Many of our donors who are still with us discovered our mission.
In 25 years, the association has grown and professionalized. Starting with a program in 1 district of Nepal to take stock, raise awareness of exploitation and provide schooling for children in 2 villages, we have developed actions in 17 districts along the Indo-Nepalese border to combat human trafficking. We have also provided support for street children in Kathmandu, and for women and children who are victims of domestic violence. Today, we are present in 8 countries for the protection and education of children.
I've lived through the organization's evolution, which has taken place naturally, in a spirit of continuity. The very essence and values of the association have not changed. Knowing that we're doing everything we can to ensure that the children have a child's life, that they have self-confidence and that they can help build their lives as adults in the making, is a great source of motivation on a daily basis.
My missions have diversified over the years, and I've done a lot of training. But my main role is to maintain relations with our donors and follow up their generosity.
I'm here first and foremost for them, and it's always a pleasure to talk to them. THANK YOU, THANK YOU to all of you, THANK YOU to all of you, your solidarity is so touching!
