Video : A day with special-needs children at the Charaibeti center in India

25 Feb, 2025

Our partner Tomorrow's Foundation takes us through a day of welcoming children with special needs to its Charaibeti center in Calcutta, India.

The day traditionally begins with singing. Then the center team takes roll.
Children with severe disabilities are cared for individually.
Particular attention is paid to the acquisition of new vocabulary words. Mothers are encouraged to observe the sessions.
Learning to write first words is developed.
Children love story time. Stories play an important role in the development of language and communication.
As well as learning practical skills, we work with children on academic skills such as maths, which will help them in their everyday lives.
Children are encouraged to talk about what interests them.
The children work on their fine motor skills and do physiotherapy exercises.
Recreation time includes dance, yoga, art and play.

"I've been accompanying my cousin to the center for over 2 years and he's made a lot of progress. Before, he couldn't stand or walk. Now he can stand on his own two legs," confides a young woman.
