On the occasion of the international day of interns on November 10, 2019, Planète Enfants & Développement would like to honor Margaux and Emilie who have both done their internship in the association. We asked them a few questions to better understand their career path and future aspirations, but also to know what led them to the international solidarity sector and what they retained from this experience.
Margaux Petitcolas23 years old, is a student in a double degree "Grande Ecole Program" at SKEMA Business School and in a Master of International Relations Sciences Po Aix. She joined us in June 2019 to complete her end-of-studies internship.
Emilie Brault, a student in Master 2 Education Sciences, course "Expertise, Engineering, and International Projects" at the University of Paris-Est Créteil, has completed a 6-month end-of-study internship at Planète Enfants & Développement, from March to September 2019.
Why do your internship in an international solidarity association?
Margaux I had the chance to travel a lot and to meet people who were in more difficulty than others. I wanted to help in my own way. During my studies, I was very aware of major international issues, including the Sustainable Development Goals. I wanted to be able to put the theory into practice by making myself useful during a professional experience. Having an experience in the field of international solidarity, and more particularly working in an association, seemed to me to be the best solution.
Emilie For the themes of intervention and the target publics of Planète Enfants & Développement. The methodology of family support echoes social support projects that I was able to discover and deepen during my Master 1 internship and in a collective thesis done in Master 2. For the missions of the internship also: communication and fundraising; but also support to the development of the scientific expertise of the association.
What are or were your assignments and what did you enjoy?
Margaux : I work on the communication and fundraising aspects. In broad terms, I update the website, prepare letters for our donors, manage sales in our online store, prepare our end-of-year campaign or the evening celebration of our 35th anniversary... I appreciate that the association is on a human scale. Relationships are easy between colleagues and the atmosphere is really pleasant! The diversity of the proposed missions allows me to have an overall vision of the marketing techniques useful for fundraising in the association field.
Emilie I appreciated the individualized follow-up with my tutor every week on my files, but also on my overall understanding of CSR issues, the mechanisms of financing, etc. More generally, this internship gave me perspective on the Sustainable Development Goals, CSR and the mechanisms underlying these financing systems. And of course I enjoyed discovering the different projects in the different countries (even though I was at a distance).
What can we wish you for the future?
Margaux I would love to go to the field with an NGO, to observe how projects are set up and carried out in practice and their impact on the targeted populations. And also to travel, to take a backpack and discover new landscapes, new cultures... before entering the active life!
Emilie : That's for you to say!
